Over what distance is the wireless effective?
If you have a good “line of sight” between the transmitters then the standard equipment supplied with the kit will be able to achieve 2km or more.
More powerful transmitters are available if 2km is not far enough.
The most common question we get asked is ‘ how far can the wireless go’. The unhelpful answer to this question is ‘it depends’. The main factor that will influence how far they can go is whether you have a direct ‘line of sight’ to the transmitter at the other end of the link. If you have a good line of sight the standard transmitters should be able to achieve 2km or more.
- If you don’t have a line of sight between transmitters, the wireless will still work but it will be over a much shorter distance.
- If the distance between transmitters is under 100 metres then in our experience it doesn’t matter what is in the way; the wireless will connect.
- If the relevant distance is between 100 metres and 500 metres, and there are say, shed rooves or similar in the way, then there is a high likelihood it will still connect; the only real way to prove it is to try it and see.
- If line of sight and connection is a challenge, it is possible to “dog-leg” the signal off an additional transmitter or use 2 pairs of transmitters and create the link in two separate hops.
