Problems with Huawei Routers

There is a known problem with some Huawei broadband routers that are often supplied with 4G mobile broadband connections.

If you have a broadband router that looks like this (or the equivalent white one), your IFU may be unable to register your cameras or you may experience other strange network issues. The router appears to implement a form of 'client isolation' whereby the different devices connected to the router (such as the IFU and the cameras) are unable to see one another properly.

The models confirmed to have been affected include:

  • B525s-23a
  • B525s-22a

Solution

The easiest way of circumventing this issue is to purchase a 5 port network switch, and connect the cameras and IFU to this, before connecting the switch to the Huawei router. The switch allows the devices to see each other properly as it doesn't filter any broadcast traffic.
